Sun Yumin (1940-), a native of Shanghai. She started to learn Beijing opera at the age of 8 under tuition of Ge Suizhi, a Beijing opera fiddle player. At 10 she enrolled in Beijing Traditional Opera School and took lessons from Zhao Qixia, Li Jinhong, Zhao Dexun and Gao Yuqian. After graduation she was assigned to the Xun Huisheng Beijing Opera Troupe and, under firsthand training by Xun Huisheng, she had learned the essence of the Xun style. She is loved by the audience for her sweet voice and graceful singing. Her repertoire includes Red Maid, a Mystery in the Night of Lantern Festival, Xin An Post, a Good Caning for the Fickle Guy, Two You Sisters in the Red Mansion, the Case of a Jade Bracelet, and Lady Xun Guan Niang.
